Plagiarism Policy

The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence in Medical Issues (IJAIMI) is committed to maintaining high ethical standards in academic publishing and considers plagiarism in any form to be unacceptable.

Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism is the unethical practice of using someone else's work, ideas, or words without proper citation. It includes, but is not limited to:

  • Copying text verbatim from another source without citation.
  • Paraphrasing another’s work without adequate acknowledgment.
  • Using another person’s research results, data, or concepts without giving credit.

Plagiarism Detection and Acceptable Similarity Threshold

All submitted manuscripts will be checked using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts should not exceed a similarity index of 20%. Any submission exceeding this threshold will be subject to further scrutiny.

  • Minor Similarity (<20%): Manuscripts with less than 20% similarity may still be reviewed if properly cited. Authors may be requested to revise specific sections to reduce similarity.
  • Excessive Similarity (>20%): If a manuscript exceeds 20% similarity, it will be returned to the author(s) for significant revision or may be rejected, depending on the extent and nature of the plagiarism.

Actions in Case of Plagiarism

Depending on the degree of plagiarism:

  1. Minor Plagiarism (Similarity 20-30%): The manuscript will be returned to the authors with a request for revisions to lower the similarity index and correct the citations.

  2. Major Plagiarism (Similarity >30%): Manuscripts found with more than 30% similarity or containing direct copying without citation will be rejected outright. Further submissions from the authors may also be restricted.

  3. Published Articles: If plagiarism is detected post-publication, the article will be retracted and a retraction notice will be published.

Authors' Responsibilities

  • Authors must ensure their manuscript is their original work and appropriately cite all sources.
  • They must be proactive in ensuring the similarity index is within the acceptable threshold before submission.
  • Authors are encouraged to use plagiarism detection tools to check their manuscript prior to submission.

Consequences

Plagiarism in any form will result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript.
  • Potential blacklisting from future submissions to IJAIMI.
  • Notification to the authors’ affiliated institutions.
